Players sulking because Tomkins was sold against his will and taking sides with Sakho
Just one or two reasons for the toxic dressing room.

Even Tore is earning 40k per month.

No wonder Sakho is unhappy

It did make sense.

Because Palace had made an offer and Tomkins said to Bilic unless I am a guaranteed starter I'd like to go. He wasn't. So he went. What's not to make sense of that situation?

You can argue whether it should've been Ogbonna, Collins or Reid but there was no offer in for those players so its irrelevant.

Didn't make sense to me and I said so on here at the time. As did others. Not saying that means we were right, but it does mean our opinions had nothing to do with hindsight.

I was calling out Ogbonna last season for the stupid errors and lack of concentration and positioning so I certainly didn't think selling Tomkins made sense and there were others who said the same.

Tomkins had to go.

There was no room for him, Ogbonna, Reid and Collins. Even if we'd moved Collins on Tomkins wouldn't have been happy as Bilic couldn't offer him a guaranteed start as Reid and Oggy were bossing it at the time. Tomkins wasn't happy at RB so time to say goodbye.

Add to that we have two youngsters looking up and seeing four CB's in front of them. They would see that and look to get out for playing time. By letting Tomkins go Bilic diluted the path to the first team for the youngsters. It was a long term decision aswell as a short term one.

People can scream and shout all they like but the decision to sell Tomkins made sense for everyone at the time. Hindsight and all that.

Only problem with that view is everything. How many games have oxford or Burke played for wh this season. Somewhere near zero??

I agree. but I also think Bilic thought he would have European football and then these players would have more game time.

"Blaming the sale of Tomkins for our current situation is Laughable"

Spot on.

Only issue I have with it is that one of the reasons he was allowed to leave was that we had two very talented young centre backs whose progress would stagnate if they were held back and didn't get game time.
One was sent out on loan and one hasn't played (although he's been injured for a month). Both would have performed better than Ogbonna has this season.

Eric

Pretty much yes. Not going to spout on here how I know.

Also not one to pretend I'm 'ITK'

But on this one I am. He was not a fan of Bilic, was not a regular starter and half the time when he did it was out of position.

Scoring against United in the FA cup then finding himself benched for Michail Antonio for the following game against Leicester at right back was the final straw. His mind was made up before the season was over and Pardew had been chasing him when he was at Newcastle and still wanted him at Palace.

I don't blame him. I also don't get the big fuss since he has gone. Pretty much everyone said he is not good enough for our best 11 anyway? Blaming the sale of Tomkins for our current situation is Laughable.

Re: Players sulking because Tomkins was sold against his will and taking sides with Sakho
He wasn't a 100% regular
In 2011/12 he made 45 starts in all competitions
In the following seasons his starts were
21
35
23
30

He was playing enough not to think of himself as some OUTCAST.
Just needed to knuckle down and nail down a place given he should be coming into his peak years as a centre half.

Re: Players sulking because Tomkins was sold against his will and taking sides with Sakho
I don't get this 'Tomkins on the fringes for the past X years' schtick. He wasn't on the fringe till Bilic came in and that was Bilic's decision not anything lacking in Tomkins' behaviour or general play. In any case, as a central defender of some note himself I'd have expected Bilic to take a look at him and work with him on improving, if that was indeed what was required. And I'm not sure it was.

Re: Players sulking because Tomkins was sold against his will and taking sides with Sakho
He had been behind Ogbonna and Reid last season not way down the pecking order as you suggest. Plus he had played right back at times.
Are we now disputing the version where he told Bilic he wanted guarantees that he would play?
And that Bilic wanted him to stay but couldn't give those assurances. Understandably.

If he had stayed he probably would have played the majority of our games I suspect
Probably as many as he has played at Palace given Delaney and Dann are their main pairing

Re: Players sulking because Tomkins was sold against his will and taking sides with Sakho
You've lost me a bit there Sven. How was he petulant? I reckon the club/bilic would have thought, oggy reid first choice, ginge OX and kouyate as back ups, then Byram on the right with Antonio as back up. So they told JT "you're not going to get game time, we have a good offer from palace and we're moving you on"

Re: Players sulking because Tomkins was sold against his will and taking sides with Sakho
Why the ultimatum then?
Centre backs get injured and suspended.
The best ones stay in the team and one that can play right back as well would be in the squad every week.
He has been a petulant idiot.

He had just had his best season with us and was a very important player in our best season in a long time.

Re: Players sulking because Tomkins was sold against his will and taking sides with Sakho
Tomkins had been around the first team for about 7 years and wasn't a regular.
Perhaps he should have taken a look in the mirror and said I am going to give up fighting policemen outside nightclubs , train harder and get in the team.
Not go to the manager and say guarantee me a place or I am off.
I imagine he got that idiotic move off an episode of TOWIE.
Perhaps one of you orange Essex ladyboys can confirm ?

Of course, any right minded person would never buy into that. Besides, when a footballer walks out onto a pitch infront of over 50000 people they will be desperate to impress and play well, they won't be running around thinking about James 'fucking' Tomkins. A laughable theory.

Re: Players sulking because Tomkins was sold against his will and taking sides with Sakho
Don't believe it for a second. They're professional footballers - they get sold when they'd probably prefer not to be all the time. That's the reality and they all know it - Tomkins was deemed surplus to requirements so was going to be sold somewhere. I'm sure he was gutted, but that's the life of a footballer.

It's easy to pick holes and make things up when we're shit.

Re: Players sulking because Tomkins was sold against his will and taking sides with Sakho
Trouble is, that what you've basically got is a bunch of people saying that if this is true then it's understandable

Wrong. On every level. Think about that for a second. Players getting paid tens of thousands of pounds a week are under performing because they're sulking about one of their mates not being there? How utterly pathetic

If it is true, sell every single one of the weak, selfish, pathetic cunts in January
